Trying to daisychain 8mm camera to DVX-100 to FCP

I've been trying to daisychain a VCR/8mm camcorder through the DVX-100 VCR to capture through FCP to transfer old home movies. There seems to be communication between the devices because I get a preview of the VHS/8mm footage in the FCP Log and Capture window.

The issue is that Capture Now won't directly capture it, I just get a "waiting for timecode" message, which I've tried to remedy by putting the camera in Free Run timecode mode, which also did not fix the problem. When I load a tape into the camera, it just stops it within a second's time.

Any ideas on how to make this work?

Running:

Macbook Pro 10.6.8

Final Cut Pro 6.0

DVX-100 w/ firewire

You need to change Log & Capture's capture setting to "Non-Controllable device" and start the tape manually, then click the "Now" button in the L&C window.
