Can't download kindle book to ipad 2

I downloaded the most recent kindle app from iTunes (2.85, I think). I followed the instructions: tap on Archives and choose book to download. However, when I did this, I got an error message indicating that I need an update to kindle app and am referred to the iTunes store! Has anyone else had this issue and if so, what do I do? Thanks!

Seems like your app may not have installed correctly. You have the most current app, 2.8,5 and the app is universal (i.e. works on iPad, iPhone, iPod) so I think you have have a slightly corrupt app.

I would try restarting your phone (easiest solution). Then if that doesn't work I would uninstall and then reinstall the app.

Good luck.

Thanks, Thom_D, but it didn't work. I get the following message:

Item not available for this device type. Your Kindle requires a software update to view this content. Please visit http://www.amazon.com/kindlesoftwareupdates for instructions on how to install the free update for your device.

When I go to the URL, it just leads me back to the App Store! Frustrating!

Dave,

Thanks! I did do as Thom suggested. I don't think I need to restore my OS because within the past 2 weeks or so, Apple had me upgrade to 5.0.1. It took a loooong time. If I recall correctly, all my data was stored, my iPad 2 was wiped clean, and then all the data was restored. I downloaded the Kindle app for the first time just this past weekend. Thanks for the URL! I had actually looked for help on Amazon but didn't turn up the URL you sent. Will give it a try!

Thanks again.

Dave,

Thanks for the URL. I ended up exchanging a few email messages with Amazon people. That didn't help so I was connected by phone to an Amazon support person in the US. It's unfortunate, but the very first Kindle book I tried to download was a gift, and the gift giver didn't realize that he had chosen a Kindle book that can only be read using the Kindle apps for PC or Mac. Unfortunately, my Mac operating system is too old (and who wants to read a book on a computer anyway?!). So apparently there's nothing wrong with my iPad 2 or the Kindle app--I hope, anyway! In any case, I've learned to be careful about ordering Kindle books!

Thanks again,

Xilan

I had no idea that Amazon sold Kindle books that could only be viewed on a computer. Seems really strange that Amazon would allow such a thing, but Apple's not the only ones who make strange decisions. Thanks for posting back with that info.

They also sell ones that can only be read on iOS devices. They have a bunch of multimedia features.
