My iPhone thinks it's in Riyadh

This morning I noticed the time was 3 hours ahead on my phone. When I checked the settings it said location was Riyadh Saudi Arabia! Also the map was showing this as my location, and indeed all other location services. I turned off automatic time zone settings, and that initially solved the problem, but then later it went back to Riyadh. I've now turned the phone off and back on again and so far ok. What could account for this bizarre behaviour?

Is this happening when you are in different locations? It could be that your gps is not picking up signals and the iphone is relying on the router's "listed" address using wifi. If the router is incorrectly located, you phone gets the wrong location.

If your problem occurs at different locations (using different routers) and if outdoors where gps should be picked up, then there may be another problem. Have you tried a hard reset?

I thought all was ok, but NO....woke up this morning to find my phone in Riyadh again. I turned location services off and then turned the phone off and on again. Then turned location services back on - let's see what happens tomorrow! I will have to check the map of Riyadh next time to see exactly where it thinks it is!

This is totally ludicrous - with other people reporting this problem, why don't Apple tell us what is going on? You would think their moderators read these posts!

I also found myself in Riyadh on Friday morning (16th). Very galling for my daughter as I had to wake her up to catch a plane, and then had to tell her (after she had showered) that my phone was wrong and she still had three hours before she had to leave!!!!

According to maps I was in the King Fiasal district.

Reset my network connections and haven't noticed a problem since, but have uncoupled the clock from location services just to be on the safe side..
