Does Mac OS X Server have good built in backup software?
Does Mac OS X Server have good built in backup software? and by that I mean that the Mac OS X Server would be the target for my backups not the source. In other words I am not looking to backup the Mac OS X Server - but to backup other systems to it - including both local and remote systems.
I intend to buy a Mac Mini Server and a 12TB Thunderbolt RAID array - 800MB/s according to test sites - and connect that to my local wired 1Gbps network - and 802.11n wireless network and use if for local Time Machine backup of Macs as well as backup of local windows system(s).
I also intend to use my 50Mbps down 5Mbps up internet connection to be the remote backup target for other locations, such as my parents for example, where they are using windows - and possibly others.
I have not yet worked out all the details of backup strategies interms of full, incremental, etc - but I am looking for the correct software to use to put on the systems to be backed up - I think TimeMachine will work fine for the local Macs - not quote sure what to use for the remote systems, espeically windows machines - I tried a few FTP type apps but had issues connecting to my current NAS drive and to a Mac OS X Server VM - I am hopeful that a full dedicated server running Mac OS X will not have those issues.
