Give us something to work with as a start

Like what version of iPhoto? How are  you deleting (the correct way is to delete small numbers(100 or so max)  of photos from events by selecthing the photo(s) and pressing the delete key and then emptying the iPhoto trash.

Note that folders in iPhoto do not hold photos - folders only hold other folders or albums

Are you seeing this in iPhoto or elsewhere?

Anything else that you can tell us that might give someone who knows nothing about you and your system except what you tell us a chance to do more than make off the wall guesses

I am using iphoto 11. I delete them the way you described it. The only difference is that I do delete close to 2,000 at a time. (I have almost 90,000 photos to delete!!!)

Why are you deleting 90,000 photos? Would it be easier to export the few you want to keep and trash teh library and start over?

I only see that in iphoto. My hd crashed last week. I got a new HD. I used my external drive to get my pictures back. Unfortunately. I got tons of duplicates. These are the pictures I am trying to delete.

Now we are getting somewhere - did you by any chance import your iPhoto library form teh external disk into the iPhoto library on your new drive? That is incorrect, does not work and creates massive duplication

Drag the bad iPhoto library to the desktop and drag the old iPhoto library to the pictures folder (default location) of you system and launch iPhoto - it will open the library doing any required conversion and you will be up and running with no duplicatees - once you are happy with the library you can delete the one on yoru desktop
