Can I use a 9-to-6 pin Firewire cable in Target disk Mode?

I need to transfer my Mac Mini files to my new iMac. I would obviously like to do it in Target Disk Mode if I could. The Mac mini has a FW 400 port and the iMac has a FW 800 port. Can I do this using a 9-to-6 pin Firewire cable?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7)
