Hi,
I'm looking to buy a USB (or Firewire if they exist) video capture device that can take S-Video and composite connections. Could someone recommend me best one under $150 that is compatible with Snow Leopard? Also, and more importantly, does anyone know if it is possible to capture the signal via Quicktime Pro or Final Cut Pro rather than bundled third party software.

Ive used a small, cheap EasyCAP or EZCap connector. There are many varieties online. Some may be frauds.
Mine came w/a Windows CD but worked on my iMac w/o disc. It imported data from a videocasstte into a movie
file. A 2-hr cassette froze my computer. There may be a way. But a 10 sec clip displayed nicely. Experiment.
I used the predecessor to the Canopus ADVC55 to load VHS tapes into a mac. As I recall I brought the firewire signal into iMovie (could have been Final Cut Pro too, as I had both on the system). Thanks for the info. I can't find the ADVCmini anywhere, but that one would be great. Do you happen to know if FCP can take data from USB capture devices? I only need 720p, so I'm wondering if I could get away with spending a bit less.
I looked through the FCP documentation, and they reference being able to use USB as an input. Most of the focus is on firewire, because then you can control the camera or input device from the computer. You might want to ask the question in the FCS discussion at https://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/final_cut_stud io to get a more definitive answer.
Thanks! I won't need to control the device from the Mac, so I guess it is an option. More hardware suggestions would be appreciated if anyone else is reading (though I am working on hunting down that ADVCmini).
Me too! I am also looking online for a video capture device that will work with my Mac Pro (Late 2013). i have some old video cassettes tapes I want to capture into digital files or DVD. Beside that I also looking for a audio line-in device to convert old audio cassette tapes to digital MP3 files. Do Anyone have any recommandation.?
