Thanks Aaron! Worked for me. Went from 1.77GB to 0.22GB.

Actually while it did take away the "other" space, some of my songs would not play. I don't know exactly how many but some would play and some would not. So I tried unsyncing my music and syncing it back and the music plays, but I have the "other" space filled back to where it was before.

Strange. It sounds like you may have some corrupted music files, then.

    Other data issue Solved!!!

My 'Other' was up to over 5 gb!  Searched and searched the forums for a solution besides restore to new(not a solution!!).  It sounds like Aaron's trick might work for a certain type of data..  It did not work for me.

After reading BawlZINmotion's reply, it dawned on me that we have been sending a lot of videos and pics of our newborn via text.  I deleted all of my text messages.  Other went from 5gb to .49gb.  It makes sense if you think about it.  That data is somewhere if it is in your text messages and is not necessarily accounted for in photos or videos.   It is surprising that more people have not found this solution as there is a ton of discussion about this on the forums.

    Good Luck!!

That doesnt make sense....BUT, it worked! So thanks, just recovered about 4gig of space

Wish someone would explain why that works though, I don't like that much mystery with my devices

There is a problem, after I did that little trick, I got over 4GB back which is nice BUT...some of my music didnt play, I had to re-sync the phone, and then the 4GB of "Other" came back.

So...I guess the music app needs that "Other" space, d'oh! So close to a solution, unless anyone else has worked it out? I'm back to square 1 and you might find the same if you try to play your music.

Could you specicfy if you sent those by actual text message or by Apples iMessage? I found that you have to reload older iMessages from the server, as they are only saved locally for a few days past. It would be ridiculous of the devices to still store the videos/images locally, even if the messages itself were not saved.

I am nearing 6 GB and was able to rule out pretty much everything besides the messages. As I only send and receive media via iMessage I am reluctant to delete everything, even the pretty much spaceless text messages.

I guess that make sence , though i felt that the text data was on a server and cloud. How would one deleat "All" of your text msg on your phone? It would be years worth...

Hey ADMIN you out there??? It time this issue got resolved

  • graycement Level 1 (0 points)

I am haveing a dilog with (maybe a human?) at apple regarding this "other" issue.

1.Qu all the text msg and photos and vid are stored on your phone

      Responce yes

    There resonce is

When your texts come in, you have the option to remove some comments or clear all at the top left of the text conversation for each individual text conversation.

    2. I then asked if I have to clear one by one.

If you have 100 conversations, you will have to delete 100 of them or you can restore your device to factory settings and re-sync wanted content only.

You can clear all within the conversation or from the main message area swipe the text to clear the conversation. Clear All top left of

Aaron's suggestion dropped my wife's phone from 9.53GB of other to 5.1GB. Wonderful decrease but with apps, music, and everything else accounted for... What the eff is the remaining 5.1GB??

    Any ideas?

Now try playing a load of random songs from the music app, I found that after "saving" gigabytes of space, some of my music didn't play and skipped straight to the next song :-/
