my new system

I just installed Tiger and have noticed some odd things happening.
Just a few minutes ago, my screen would fade a bit dimmer, then blink back to normal...it did this for about 20 minutes.
Also, programs have been crashing regularly including safari and especially Windows Media Player.
I can't use iphoto, cause when i open it it reads "loading photos"...forever...I can't stop it
Also I can't change the color of the label of some folders for no apparent
reason.
And finally, I like to hook my computer up to a larger monitor, but I no longer have the otions for display, such as top/bottom or split left/right or anything...its just the same image on both screens.
The crashing with safair happens every couple of days, and Im concerned. Can anyone help me?
Im running a 1.33 ghz powerpc 12" Macintosh G4 with 768 MB DDR SDRAM

Mac G4, Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Using the Upgrade option forces Tiger to update pieces of the system, parts that may have had problems you did'nt know about. You end up with a defective install.
The preferred method of installing is the Archive and Install with preserve settings chosen (to keep settings and all your stuff there).

I would strongly suggest you first repair your startup disk as explained in Dr.Smokes repair thread. This will hope fully repair your drive and make the new install work correctly.

His Archive and Install tips will tell you how. Make sure you preserve settings and follow his advice on what to do with the previous system folder after you're done.
Good Luck!

Cheers!

weird..there was no option to run the disk repair or reboot from the tiger disk...just the icon to install
so i ran the disk repair from the utility folder, and the button to repair disk was faded..i could only verify disk, verify permissions, or repair permissons...i knwo im not stupid but im stumped...its not easy being the only mac user i know..i wish i had a buddy who was savy but all my computer geek friends are obsessed with windows and linux.... sigh

to start up from the install disc, hold down the C key during restart.
then right after you select english as your language you can use disk utility,
which you'll find in the utilities menu on the top.
from there you should have the option to repair disk (but fyi if the disk verifies then it doesn't need repair, but go ahead and repair it since you've gone this far). repairs can never be done on the start-up disk, which is why it was faded out, and why you have to start up from the intaller which has disk utility on it.

and after that you can reinstall as dale suggested. but after the archive and istall you'll probably have to reinstall some of you third-party applications.
