iPhone Restored On Its Own

Last night, I plugged my iPhone into my wall charger before going to bed. When I left my hotel to head to work this morning, the "Restore Completed" screen is displaying. Funny, because I didn't restore it. I go with the flow and enable location services, select a WiFi network, but then it gets to the Activating your iPhone form. It continually tells me that it cannot activate this iPhone and to try using iTunes. When I connect to iTunes on my MacBook, it reports that "THe software on the iPhone has expired and must be updated to a newer version." It doesn't give me the chance to activate. I try to do one last backup and it says a session could not be started with this iPhone. It does, however, offer me the chance to upgrade.

Funny, in that, iTunes reports that I'm running 5.0.1 and I've never installed a 5.0 beta.

Is it safe to assume that I need to apply the update and spemd all day restoring my backup from iCloud?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.0.1
