Using HDMI for video output and audio through the output jack?

I'm currently using a 13 inch 2011 Macbook Pro with OSX Snow Leopard, and I'm unable to simultainiously use the HDMI port for video and the output jack for audio.

Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂

When you have an HDMI device connected, the OS may automatically assume that you want audio sent to that device. There may or may not be any way to override that assumption and send the audio elsewhere by choosing another output device in System Preferences > Sound. I don't have an HDMI display, so I can't test to find out.

Ok, so hold on a second. I don't think this will work. The audio jack is essentially being disabled when the HDMI is plugged in. If I unplug the mini display works through the audio jack. When I plug the Mini-Display-HDMI back in, it stops.

I actually just found out today though something AMAZING!

Apparently, the new AppleTV will support mirroring, and do so wirelessly. This is going to be the best solution for me.

Thanks for the help though.
