Cannot find drivers for HP laserjet 1000

for the love of GOD, can someone tell me why this is so difficult?

I'm on OSX 10.6.8 and the one printer that apple did not install drivers for is the one I am using: HP LASERJET 1000.

I have scoured the forums, and the queries that have been answered date back to four years ago, with the referenced links leading to non-existent sites.

Finally, I found some information.

I downloaded the open-source drivers called foo2zjs, but along with those you need FOOMATIC RIP and GHOSTSCRIPT, available from the Linux Foundation. Without the latter, the former won't work!

Thing is, the download links for FOOMATIC and GHOST don't work. I get a loading reset error

What, pray tell, do I need to do to print something? Why is this so difficult?

Please help save a human life today; give me the answers.

It's good karma

😝

PS: contrary to my product listed, this matter concerns an iMac, not a macbook pro. thanks!

It may have something to do with HP not having OS X drivers for the Laserjet 1000. I wouldn't blame Apple for that. Laserjets are a good series of printers. We have a Laserjet 1200, and there are OS X drivers for it.

HP doesn't support this printer anymore, which is why there's no specific HP 1000 driver for OS X. That said, it's a generic PCL5E-type printer. You can use the driver for any PCL5 or PCL5E printer, or OS X's generic PCL print driver. You'll note that there's a drop-down in the Add Printer dialog that says "Print Using:" -- just select "Generic PCL Laser Printer" from that list and you are good to go.

That page is an old page. It should have redirected you to http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/foomat ic .

Thanks a lot for taking Apple's side on this; I'm sure they could've used an extra defense attorney.

anyway, before jumping to their rescue, re-read my email if you will. I am talking about the HP laserjet 1000 -- the model you are using is not the model I am using, is it? So what is the point of your reply? How is it relevant to my problem?

As it were, Apple (and it is apple, NOT HP) just overlooked the drivers for the 1000 completely. I just can't offer any other explanation for it.

JD McIninch, thanks for weighing in, however I did try that, and it did not work. I never believed in those default options anyway, when it comes to print drivers protocol.
