I am without my iPhone 4 for a few days. I never set up voice mail. I found if i just hit the VM icon any messages start playing. So there is no *number to enter and no PIN. Is there any way to get VM from another phone?
Check with your carrier. There is a way to do it, but it varies from one carrier to another.
There has to be a voicemail passcode entered for the carrer. With AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, to access your VM from another phone, call your cell # and when the greeting message starts, press the asterix (*). You'll be promted for your passcode, and then a menu to retrieve your messages. Can't do this without your VM passcode.
I called Verizon and they set me up VM and a new PIN. This very recent iPhone purchase was new to me. I am used to dialing *86 and hitting a PIN. When I bought the iPhone the dealer told me no need to worry VM setup, as the visual VM was all I'd need. I guess I didn't pay attention. But now it all works. I called the iPhone (forgot and left it on the seat of my car at the airport garage - discovered it after going thru security and not enough time to go back, retrieve it and make the flight) and got my messages.
