Q: Thunderbold Display is smelling

Hello Apple Fans,

three Weeks Ago i bought an 27'' Thunderbold Display. Its a really great Display, but there is one Problem.

Every Time a switch on the Display, its smells. I tought, ok new gadget, and let the Display running for many Hours.

But this doesnt solve the Problem.

The smell is coming out from the bottom, where the loudspeaker holes are.

Any thunderbold Owners have the same Problem? Any solutions?

Thanks for helping.

I am having the same issue - I am very dizzy/lightheaded from the smell of my new Thunderbolt display. However, I've only given it one day. Has yours improved over time?

    Hi Griff,

well, now its getting better with the smell. 2 Weeks after my Post - so 5 Weeks after i bought the Display, the smell getting less.

I still have the smell, but only a very little bit. So i can live with it. So i think - give your Cinema Display a time  - hope i can help you.

    Greetings!

I bought a second Thunderbolt display (for my 2nd location) and it has the same issue. Fortunately, the first no longer has the odor, and I am confident that the 2nd one will fade in time, but I am surprised at how strong the odor is and how sick (mostly lightheadedness)  it makes me feel.

I have the same issue with a 4/day old Thunderbolt display. The smell is almost overwhelming, and I'm in a large, well ventilated office. It's strong enough that it gives me a headache after 2-3/hrs of use. This is ridiculous and frankly a health hazard.

At a 30-40% cost premium over competetive alternatives I would expect more out of Apple.

    Disappointing.

I bought the Thunderbolt 27" display brand new 1 year ago and didn't notice the smell. However, about 3 days ago I noticed a chemical smell in my office and have figured out it's coming from my display monitor. I'm concerned about why it's happening now after a year of use which makes me think it's not a "new screen smell".

Should I be concerned that something is burning up on the inside?
