Unable to download from App Store with iPhone 2G

It seems I am currently unable to download any apps to my iPhone 2G (running firmware 3.1.3).

When I select a free app in the App Store, there is a blue 'FREE' button but clicking it does nothing - no error, no graphics update, nothing!

I have 5.2GB of space free on the phone.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Ben

Apple have not released a general stop to the app store on the original iPhone but it seems that that is what they have done because your idevice is 4 generations outdated and many apps on the AppStore require a modern iOS it has probably been stopped to prevent complications in the future

Sorry

( or it could be that apples servers are flooded AGAIN!!)

The problem that I am having is that I get this problem with all apps when using the App Store on the iPhone itself. I just removed and tried to redownload the 'Windows Live Messenger' app and received the same problem of being unable to press the 'FREE' button to download it.

I then did an iTunes sync and the app was redownloaded to the phone properly

Hi Folks,

Apple did something yesterday and it seems I am currently unable to download any apps to my iPhone 3G (running firmware 3.1.x), like you. 😕

When I select any kind of app in the App Store, there is a blue '$0,99'/'FREE' button but clicking it does nothing - no error, no graphics update, nothing! 😮

Anyone suffering the same issue with iOS3.1.x? 😟 Or with 4.1,4.2 or 4.3?

Thanks in advance!

Yes same problem and i can confirm that it even affects iphone 3gs on 3.1.3 if they update it works fine so this is the appstore its apple servers it stop support our firmware also it would be a bad move for apple to drop support for our devices since there is still alot of apps on the appstore that work with 3.1.3 and lower firmware, I can see this is a wide spreed problem even a guy from india is having the same problem it wont be long till this gets on the news unless apple can fix this in time, really this is really sad and depressing coming from a great company we know and trust apple

Hopefully this is just a temporary glitch. If this is the way its going to be going forward and Apples new method to force people to buy new products then I will not consider purchasing a new product from Apple in the future. Any company that resorts to heavy handed underhanded means to force their customers to buy new products I will no longer trust and do business with.

If enough customers protest and no longer purchase their products they might get the message and not try something like this again.

Same problem, I posted in this other thread here :

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3574451?tstart=0

Seems there are a lot of other posts as well with same issues relating to older iphone/ipod touch with 3.1.3 not working with Appstore.

My guess is that its a glitch in their system.

Hopefully they fix it soon...otherwise its an Android phone for me in my next upgrade 🙂

Yeah, this is a recent update in the appstore because of which users on iOS 3.1.x are not able to download apps on the device. Only way working is download with Itunes and then sync with the phone.

The problem started two days back, I even restored my phone thinking that something got corrupt !! But same the same result. They even changed some policy for which I had to give my acceptance , soon after this problem started.

Any user ,facing issues with syncing the applications( just in case they mistakenly upgraded apps on Itunes ) should pick the old app from the recycle bin /restored timeline(mac users) and drag and drop in Itunes app section and then sync again.

Hope we hear some good news soon, APPLE are you listening !

This is only my second post in any forum like this.. Hope i'm doing this correctly, but i'm having the same problem.... I spoke to an Apple rep Dec. 18 2011 in the evening and he said it was not which version (3.1.3, 4, or 5) I had, but just a software issue on my phone.

Thank you to every single one of you! I'm clueless about these issues. I will come here, before calling the "experts" next time.

Much love!

I know people who still buy apps with a first generation iPhone. How?

Now I hope Apple gets the message; I will not buy another Apple anything if this is the way they continue to do business. I bought a product less than a year and a half ago and now Apple wants to not suggest I need to buy something else no they want to make me buy something else or they will disable my device. If they do this now it will continue every year. No one from Apple told me when I was buying my phone that it was going to stop working unless I bought a better version every year. If this is the case. Goodbye Apple.
