Pulsing hiss on internal mic all voice and instruments even before recording. No effects used. How fix? garageband '11

HI! I'm using a 6 month old macbook pro with Garageband "11. I have recorded voice and instruments numerous times with the internal mic without a problem. Now I am getting a strong hiss when any sound vocal or intrumental is played into the internal mic. All cellular and wireless devices are off. I have tried adjusting the level of the internal mic, recording with no effects, working with the equalizer, and changing track and master levels. Nothing has helped so far. I have a deadline and I can't get a quality recording! Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks!!

Joanne

Maybe they weren't running before. If the fans are on, there's no way to avoid their hiss being recorded because they are sitting so close to the internal mic. Only an external mic will help.

To find out whether it's the fans, you should pick a moment when they are off (preferably right after you started up your computer and it's not hot yet) and compare the recordings.
