MBP won't burn 52x CD-R

I just bought a pack of CD-R (52x) so that I could burn some musics from iTune for a road trip (I know, but its an old car).

Anyways, my early 09 mbp (HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS21N) can't seem to reconigzed the disk. It will try to read it a few times, then spit it out. I've burned 40x - 48x CD-R on this machine just fine before. Is there a compatibility issue with 52x CD-R?

Has anyone else seem this?

Thanks

There shouldn't be a problem with 52x (downward compatibility) but there could be several issues. -

What brand CDs? Macs are pretty fussy about quality.

You may have dust in your drive. Try a drive cleaning disc or gently blowing out with air (be careful you don't just blow it in deeper).

The drive itself could be going. A bit early for that but who knows, drives don't seem to last as long these days, especially on fragile portables.

Some have reported drive issues being cleared up by restarting the computer or doing a SMC reset.
