cost depends on where you buy the battery from. If you don't change the battery you will just see further deterioration of batttery life. Sometimes the status wil change from "normal" to "service battery" as it might be on the borderline. Just be aware that you will need a new battery soon. If you have a user replaceable battery, keep an eye on the battery to make sure it doesn't expand, which can do damage to the trackpad. Just start saving for a new battery.
