Mail does not respond while RSS is operating

Mail temporarily stops responding to the user in two cases: when selecting a new RSS article or busy updating RSS feeds. In the second case, there are times when Mail does not return to the user; it keeps trying to update the RSS feeds, even if the internet is unplugged. On has to force quit the application. The problem has been systematically occurring since the upgrade to OS 10.7, and the successive updates to both the OS and Mail did not improve the situation. It would be useful to know wether other people are experiencing the same problem.
