Q: "Invalid Sim" - Apple has, at last, ackowledged the problem

Seems like Apple has acknowledged that there's in fact a problem (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4148) and released a new build to fix it:http://www.macrumors.com/2011/12/16/new-ios-5-0-1-build-9a406-intended-to-fix-no -sim-card-errors-on-iphone-4s/

I'm already trying it!

It seems that the feedback is a bit mixed...some say that it fixes the problem, some say that it stays the same...worht the try!

Here's the direct link for the build: http://appldnld.apple.com/iPhone4//0...6_Restore.ipsw

If you have a PC with Windows OS, just go to iTunes, press "Shift" + Restore, select the downloaded file and restore yout phone.

If you would like to keep your settings, do a backup prior to this because,, if you don't, you'll loose all your data. I choosed to not do that, and perform a "clean" install.

No problems so far, but then again, I'm getting this issue when I leave the phone in the Gym's locker (very poor signal).

So, I'll only be sure that it's fixed by Monday/Thursday...

Will apple provide an ios 5.0.1 firmware update for iphone 4 users to address no service/ searching issue as it has done for 4s users?

Why would you expect any of the users in this user-to-user self-help forum to know the answer? And where did you hear that there was either a problem or a solution for the 4S?

    Dear Lawrence,

I have been severely affected my the mentioned issue for past few weeks. I was just hopeful that as this problem has been acknowledged and solved for 4s may be something would also come up for iphone 4.

Well, last night I took the plunge and did a clean install from DFU Mode.

Same result!! Already got an Invalid SIM error!!

The iPhone had been in the same place all morning and, out of the blue, BAM - "Invalid SIM" shows up in the screen...

I don't know what more to do...

Monday I'm going to the store and will ask for a new micro-sim...already called the support line and they told me that there have been no complaints about this issue...

There are various causes of this issue. The patch from Apple fixes only one of them. If the phone was unlocked by hacking it and not by the original carrier or Apple there is no solution to the problem. The key to this problem is if the baseband version is 6.15. There is also some anecdotal evidence that iPhones issued by Apple as refurbs had been previously hacked, and Apple did not notice during the refurb process. If your phone is a replacement given you by Apple and you have this problem you should take it back to Apple.

The problem described in this thread is not the same as the "no service" problem, however, and Apple's patch does not address the "no service" problem.

The iPhone is not a replacement and it's not unlocked. It's ALL original and it's locked to the carrier (TMN - Portugal), where I bought the Micro-Sim.

I bought it new and sealed, in the box, all apps bought and downloaded from Appstore. No third parties involved here!

Honestly, I'm very disappointed with this the phone is failing in it's most BASIC function!! This is not acceptable for such an expensive device!!!

This (and the ridiculous battery draining problem) is ruining my daily experience with the phone! High end equipment???!! Doesn't seem like it...

By the way, I didn't get a "No Service" message. What I get is an "Invalid SIM" message.

Throwing my voice to the chorus.  Still having those pesky invalid sim messages and no service messages.  This is even I have alread applied the patch that Apple made available to resolve the SIM issue.

Some devices with invalid sim require a replacement.

Finch, I hope you are not trying to say that Apple employees are not part of these diccussions. I didn't think so.

Apple employees are NOT part of any discussion in the support forums. They are forbidden to participate. Some may read the forums, and there are moderators whose sole job is to keep the posts within the Terms of Use. I suggest reading the TOU for confirmation.

I hope it's ok for me to disagree with you Finch. If there was a private venue for me to explain why... I would.

Finch I looked at the entire TOU and didn't find any language regarding Apple Employees participating in or lack thereof these Support Communities.

Perhaps they changed the TOU since you last read it. If I'm wrong by all means let me know. I don't want to do anything that is against the rules. BTW I read a few of your comments. Thanks for your contribution to the ASU. And I mean that sincerely.
