I got rid of my iPhone, and got an android. My old iPhone was running iOS5. About 4 of my friends use iPhones running iOS5. For some reason their texts to me are still sending as iMessages.
I'm curious if there is some way that I can fix this problem? Can I deactivate my Itunes account? or maybe iCloud?
I'd appreciate any help.

Your friends have to send to your phone number, not your Apple ID.
My friends are sending it to my phone Number, Thats what is set up in their contacts.... even if they delete my contact and just send it to my number it sends as an iMessage.
Wow, don't rush to help anyone... This is the exact reason I gave up using an apple. No support. No help. Because they think there's nothing is wrong with their product.
Apple is far too proud over subpar products, programs and features..
