"Updating Library" Lock Up

I downloaded the latest upgrade to iTunes v 10, for my Power Book, and after instatallation, it continue to attempts to "Update Library". The problem is it never quite gets past about the 20-30% mark. I thought perhaps it was because of the size of my library initially, it's abou (8,000 files), but only 2GBs, but I left the compuer on all day and it still would not move from that mark. Then the only way to shut down is by "Force Quitting" my iTunes, how can I reaccess iTunes or get it to actually "Update My Library".
