Verbatim External Hard Drive Issue with Green Button Application

Hi

Not sure if this is a Lion issue or not. I couldn't get a straight answer from Verbatim.

I purchased a Verbatim Store n Save SuperSpeed USB 3.0 + USB 2.0 Desktop Hard Drive 2TB.

I reformatted the drive for Mac as described.

The drive comes with a Verbatim energy saver program called Green Button. The Green Button application states "there is no supported verbatim drive connected."

My concern is that are there other compatibility issues with this drive and Lion/Mac?

Don't want to stake my photo and music collection if the drive has a shaky history with Mac.

Anyone with experience with this drive and Mac?

Hi Silverstone,

I have exactly the same problem with my Mac Mini 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and Mac OS 10.7.2.

I purchased the Verbatim 500 Gb external hard drive a week ago and can not get "Green Button" to work. The Green Button application states "there is no supported verbatim drive connected."

The drive will not shut down even when I turn off the Mini. Answers anyone? Will try Verbatim suport and get back to you.

I've had this problem to " no supported verbatim drive connected", the drive seems to work fine although I can't seem to get the desktop icon to appear. However if I pay £90 for something, I expect all the features to work - even if I don't use them!

My worry is that this is an indicator that there is an issue with the drive. However I have checked the disk and there was an error, so I repaired it, but the Green Button feature still won't work.

Should I swap it for something at a similar price like a laCie or iomega?

Here's my experience.

I deactivated the Green Button from starting up. I've not had any issues with the drive otherwise.

In hindsight I'd get a Firewire, as it is much faster. You can also use Firewire as an external OS if ever needed. You cannot do this from a USB drive (as I recently learned).

If you can return it without a penalty, I probably would. It is a nuisance not to be able to use the full features and I would have expected Verbatim to give better follow up on my post to their help desk.

So be it.
