browse a ntfs hdd connected to Time capsule. how to?

Hi everybody.

I just bought a 2Tb TC to run backup wireless and to share my data over my wi-fi home network.

All my data is stored on an external ntfs usb drive and I wanted to connect it to my time capsule to browse it from my macbook.

Through the airport utility I can see the HDD connected but I cannot see it under shared discs in Finder, even if file sharing is enabled on TC. Maybe is because it is formatted in NTFS?

Somewhere I read that TC is not exactly designed to share data but only for backing up via Time Machine. Is that right? I guess not, am I thinkin correctly?.

Coz, in case, I could copy all data stored on my exernal usb drive directly in the DATA folder that is on Capsule by default, excluding my good old external usb ntfs drive.

Let me know something.

Thanks mates.

Correct. The drive needs to be formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or FAT32 to function correctly with the USB port on the Time Capsule.

NTFS and exFAT formats will not work here.

If you want to use the drive with the Time Capsule, you will need to temporarily move the data on the drive to another drive, then format the drive that you want to connect to the Time Capsule. Then you can move the data back to the drive and connect it to the Time Capsule.

yeah. as I thought. I started search online and I find it out, in the meantime.

So I tried to format a small and old HDD, from ntfs to HFS+ (is HFS+ the one called extended mac os journaled?) and all work fine. I can see my files from MBP and from windows7, too. read and write without problems.

and yeah, i'm doing that temp.copy->format->copyback job and all should be fine.

Thanks!
