Can I connect a DirecTV DVR direct to iMac?

....via Ethernet cable or do I need to connect to Airport Express/Extreme or Time Capsule?? I did try connecting directly to see if it would work, but couldn't get it to work.

My internet connection is via Verizon MiFi, so I do not have a router or other Ethernet connectivity at this point..

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Nope! You can connect it but you cannot watch any DirecTV content on your iMac.

What you can do is connect your PVR to your router via Ethernet and then you can get DirecTV's on-demand content. However you cannot connect directly to your iMac. DirecTV offers instructions on how to do this and how to get on-demand content. If this isn't what you're trying to achieve then please offer a bit more information about what you are attempting to achieve.

Yes Time Capsule would be a great solution IF you are looking for a Time Machine backup HD too. All a Time Capsule really is is an Airport Extreme with an integrated HD that can be used for TM backups or other storage. You can also find these refurbished on Apple's online store. If you aren't sure where to find them navigate to

then click on the Mac Accessories link on the left.
