Airport Express' Antenna

Hi, I live in a two floor house. My Airport Express, my PB and a friend's WinXP laptop are on the top floor. Unfortunatelly neither my friend nor I can get signal from the Airport Express being both computer at no more than 5 meter distance and with a maximum of two wooden doors blocking the signal. I think there shouldn't be any issue with the setup.

My friend eariler today took his laptop downstairs to try. I have to confess I almost laughted when he told me what he would try to do. The signal being two doors away was very weak I was sure that a whole floor-thick away there would be no signal at all. The opposite, both computers (I took mine afterwards) were getting very strong signal.

That made think that probably the Airport Express, since it was sitting directly on the floor upstairs, was somehow transmitting basically all the signal downwards.

Bottom line, my question is: Does anyone know where are the Airport Express internal antennas exactly located? Has anyone dissasembled one?

Thanks you in advance.

For what its worth, you can see detailed pictures of a dissected Airport Express at:

My suggestion - experiment a bit with the location and orientation of your Airport Express. Use an extension cord to put it up higher off the floor. Make sure it isn't buried amongst a pile of other cables. Move it to another side of the room it is currently located in.
