Can't login to Yahoo mail with Safari

Hi,

I'm using a Macbook (13", 2.4 Ghz) running OS 10.6.8. I'm using Safari 5.1.2. I am unable to login to my Yahoo mail account with Safari (works fine using Firefox). Specifically, when I enter my login name and password, then hit <enter>, nothing happens. The cursor sits there blinking next to the bullets in the password field. If I click on the "sign in" button, again, nothing happens. The password field becomes unselected, but that's it. I've tried various remedies suggested in the forums: delete keychains, delete cookies, reset Safari. Nothing has worked. Is anyone else having this problem?

Quit Safari.

Open Keychain Access. Select Passwords on the left.

Delete the: Safari Forms Autofill keychain You can use the search field top right corner of the window to find that keychain.

Then right or control click the keychain then click Delete.

Relaunch Safari. Go to Safari > Preferences - Autofill

Make sure: User names and passwords is selected.

Try accessing your Yahoo account.

BTW, there's a way to access your Yahoo account without having to use web based mail via a browser.

Launch Mac Mail. From the menu bar click Mail > Preferences then select the Accounts tab then the Account Information tab.

Under Accounts on the left click +

Enter your name, Yahoo user name and password; click Continue

Once your account is setup with Mac Mail, you just click the Mail icon in your Dock. You'll see a small red badge for unread mail there also.

This way you don't have to use a browser (dealing with cookies and caches) to access your Yahoo mail account.

Maybe I should just wait for the next version of Safari.

Considering Apple is not responsible for issues with web based email, ie., Yahoo, MSN, Gmail, etc., it's highly unlikely that any update would support Yahoo mail issues.

Try this..

Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari

Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.

Restart your Mac, launch Safari, try accessing your Yahoo mail.

It's very easy to setup your Yahoo account using Mac Mail as I suggested before.

Sorry, trashing the cache.db file didn't work. I'm just wondering why Safari and Yahoo mail would develop an incompatibility. They worked fine for more than a year. I'm guessing that something changed in one of the newer releases of Safari. But, others don't seem to be having this problem. Hmmm. I'll work on it, and see if I can find a solution. I did mac support at a big university for 17 years. I should be able to find a solution 🙂
