I'm running iOS 5.0.1 on an iPhone 4S and when I run iHandySoft's Quick Scan Pro application, I get an icon that I don't recognize which replaces the battery icon in the status bar. This icon looks like a box with an arrow pointing down and to the right. It also pulses.

Have you checked the instructions for the app?
Just checked now for good measure, but as I suspected, the app description does not explain what it is. Additionally, there is no help in the app itself.
I doubt Apple would allow developers to create their own status bar icons anyway for iOS.

Look at the icon in the top right corner where you usually find the battery symbol.
Well, it's not a standard iPhone icon, so it must come from the app.
In that case, this must be an jailbroken phone, since the SDK doesn't allow apps to modify those icons.
My iPhone is not jailbroken and never has been.
It has nothing to do with Quick Scan Pro. Which iOS version? Has you phone ever been hacked to unlock the carrier?
iOS 5.1.1 (9B206). It has never been unlocked, hacked, jailbroken or tampered with in any way. Quick Scan is the only app where I have ever seen this symbol so far.
Again, 3rd party apps are not allowed to alter the Status Bar icons, only use existing ones. The only other possibility is your carrier, but I have no clue what it would mean. Otherwise, your phone has been hacked or compromised in some way. Take it to Apple.
@BlueBomberRC83: On which carrier does your iPhone run? Mine runs on T-Mobile Germany.
I can't imagine how my iPhone could posibly have been hacked or altered in any way. And why does this only happen with Quick Scan (at least so far)?
And the strange thing is the screen images on the QuickScan page in the iTunes Store don't show it either.

I, and no one esle here can't explain it. That's why I suggested taking it to Apple to be checked out.
