iPod touch RAM issues?

Hello,

I have an iPod Touch 32GB 4th Generation. In an app that I have (Kingsoft Battery Doctor) it says there is a total of 248MB of Memory. The iPod slowed down when I installed iOS 5 and got worse with iOS 5.0.1. Here is the memory status right now.

Memory User	% and #MB
Wired Memory	19%, 48 MB
Act	7%, 17MB
Inact	5%, 12MB
System	65%
Free	3%

There are no apps open right now, if you don't include Battery Doctor.

What is slowing down my iPod? Apps take forever to open, The iPod freezes when I try to lock it, and apps frequently freeze and lag.

Any thoughts or tips?

iPod touch, iOS 5.0.1, 32 GB

I also forgot to mention, it is NOT Jailbroken in any way, and is fairly new.

Powering off and then back on (not putting it to sleep) will free up some memory for a while. Others have experienced same performance lag.

Is it some sort of iOS 5 bug? I read online there wouldn't be any more updates or fixes for a while.

I have the same problem on my iPhone 3GS. Eversince i installed iOS 5 the user experience has become really bad. This happens though, only when i am connected to Wifi or 3G. What i did was to turn off iCloud completely and now i have no problems. Try that first to see what happens. You may also consider to make a restore if it doesnt work...

Backing up to my PC takes forever, that's ANOTHER problem I have! iCloud takes a while, too, but not as long. So if I don't have to, i'd rather not turn off iCloud. Thanks for your contribution, though.

Holy mackerel, it runs like it has a gigabyte of RAM without internet! I never noticed that before! Why do you think that is?

Well, when you are connected to the internet many of the "services" (like iCloud, location services etc) run on the backround without you noticing it... These services take a large part of your memory. For example, iCloud tries to connect with the server to synchronize everything. Back in iOS 4 you didnt have iCloud...

Now turn iCloud temporarily off, connect to the internet and see if it is any better...

My advice is to make a compromise as i did.. I cant expect my 3GS to perform like a 4S with all the features...

In brief, turn off the services you dont need.

It helps a lot when I have no apps open. Unfortuantely, there isn't much of a point to an iPod if that's the case! Hopefully Apple will come up with fixes soon.You helped a lot. Thanks
