itunes v10.5.2 will not re-open after using it and closing it once on my Windows XP computer.

After installing the latest version of itunes, v10.5.2, on my Windows XP computer, I find that once I close itunes, it will not re-open until I restart my computer. The itunes icon remains in my system tray and is unresponsive. The only way I can use itunes after opening and closing it once is to restart my computer. I've checked for updates and support guidance on itunes.com to no avail. I've even tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it did not fix the problem. I was not having this problem with the previous version of itunes. Any advice.

Thanks bag2tang. I have tried that on two different XP computers that both have the latest itunes. It appears to close itunes but the computers won't run correctly after closing itunes.exe in "task manager". In addition, after doing this and trying to reopen itunes again it appears to open but will not run. It simply locks up. So far the only solution I've found is to restart the computers. Let me know if you come up with anything else.

I am having the same problem. The program itself seems to be closed (it is not listed in the task manager as an open process or application) however there is an itunes icon in the taskbar. When right clicking on this icon nothing happens, ie I don't get an option to close. The only solution is to log out of my profile and log back in. Seems to be a bug with this version of iTunes. Anyone else having the same trouble? I am running Windows XP on a fairly new computer and have had no problems until downloading and installing v.10.5.2.

I had the same problem even after re-installing. However after Googling similar problems I downloaded REVO Uninstaller (free 30 Days Trial) and completely uninstalled iTunes and all other Apple software. I then cleaned the registry with free CCleaner. A reinstall if iTunes seems to have resolved the problem.

I have the exact problem. I am using Window 7(64bit), and after a re-star, itunes will open, but as soon as I enter my password, or try to do anything except play my music, it freezes up, and I have to close using task manager. Ater several uninstalls and reinstalls, I tried creating a new user for windows, and that worked for the purchase of 1 song, then it froze up again. HELP!

I've used CCleaner for many years now and it's never asked me to upgrade or pay; I just did a registry check a few days ago and it fixed all of them no worries. :/ I don't know if it asked me to upgrade or anything (I know there are version of CCleaner which are paid software) because I just let it 'Fix All Selected Issues' which it did with no problem.

itunes v10.5.2 will not re-open after using it and closing it once on my Windows XP computer.
