turning on L2 cache in hardware preferences

hi all,

i've got a 1.25 Ghz Al PB. i was poking around my preferences, trying to speed up performance, when i came across the "hardware" pane. i opened it and saw that "L2 cache" was set to none; it coule also be set to 512 KB. can anyone tell me more about this setting? is there a reason to leave it on either setting ?

thanks,
-ld

If you have installed the developer stuff it adds a icon to the sys prefs about the cpu.

Problem is that you can set it but it does not seem to stay on even if it is active on the proccessor. ??? Weard ???

Might work with some other program setting it.

Okay as for speed you will need ATI displays + latest ati rom/bios update "all software" from www.ati.com .
Also get ONYX from maybe macupdate.com or anyother place you use to get files from.

Obviously istall all 3 programs maybe first ATI stuff + restart.

Already you will see a speed increase on the second restart after installing as for the first restart it loads / makes changes so it does sometimes take long like after OSX update as well.

Now once you are up and running after the 2nd reboot run ONYX being very carefull what you tamper with as this can mess up your setting pritty good but is only software changes so pbook hardware stays fine.

1. ONYX So look for in apearance maybe for safari as there is a button to speed up the slugish loading of safari/webpages in safari. + apply/execute

2. Look for automation thingy and select only "verify and repair + complete optimization + execute maintanace + all accounts" and unselect cleaning "all" then go to maintanace and select only "MAC OSX + complete optimization" and nothing else.

3. GO back to automation in ONYX and run/execute/apply so the program can do what it needs to.

4. Restart and once in OSX restart again.

5. You have a machine that feels and looks much faster and without adding ram or 7200rpm hd it is faster.

If you want to add max ram but try to get Samsung as it appears to have the least problems so far with Pbook's and well get the fastest HD as size depends on your budget.
Make ???? just not fujitsu as they have bugs or are sensitive .

The ram should in theory add 52% speed to it and the HD 7200rpm will defenetly speed thing up.

Hope this helps as it worked for me.

PS: in sys prefs select ati display and add say UT2004 or something that needs more speed say like firefox and set to highest performance.

Smile you should almost be in heaven.
