Q: fcp won't export audio in sync, fcp won't export audio in sync

Hs anyone any experience with FCP not exporting audio in sync even though the audion and video is in sync on your timeline prior to export, someone suggested that if you have independenytly recorded audio at 44.1KHZ instead of 48K this can cause issues, tried resampling but doesnt sem to make a difference any help would be appreciated

In addition to Christina's questions, it would be useful to know how you resampled the audio material and what format it is in.

Guys thanks for your quick response , it seems I didn't really resample the original audio I thought I could do this by changing the sequence settings to match my original 44.1 and 16 bit settings and then dragging everything back into timeline.

I then tried the same but changing audio to video settings 48k and 16 bit . It seems I'm going to have to try round tripping using soundtrack pro and them time stretching the audio ( or shrinking) in this case to get the two to sync as I recorded a live event and have no way of getting the audio again. Will let you know how it goes thanks for the suggestions though

As you probably know by now you should always convert 44.1 to 48 BEFORE you start editing.

This can be quickly accomplished using QTpro.

Or almost any pro audio app.

Time stretching sounds like a nightmare. And will certainly shred your recording.

If it's at all possible, I'd properly convert the recording to 48 and drop that into the project.

    Good luck.

So guys here's how it all turned out. As I couldn't re-record the original source audio wave files, I resorted to opening up the original source wave files which were 44.1k  and resample them by opening them in soundtrack pro, process tab, then select resample, this then presents a drop down tab with a range of resampling options, in this case I selected 48k which is what my video is set to.

Surprisingly quickly the source files were re-encoded ( these were around 1 and 1/2 hour each running time)

Then reopened FCP and without having to Re-edit the timeline just offlined the orginal 44.1k files and replaced them by reconnecting media and pointing to new resampled 48k files.

They dropped back in perfectly and on export video and audio were in perfect sync.

Lessons learned - always record the audio which was on a separate field recorder at 48k. - point well made Goldfish

Secondly - thanks to everyone for your helps and hints

Thirdly - in learning we have no failures, we just fall forwards

    Best regards,

BTW you were right time stretching the original source files proved unproductive I guess you can chance it with short clips but the drift on 1 1/2 hour files was unmanageable

    Thanks again
