Wireless Headset on a Mac Book Pro

I recently purchased a Logitech H600 Wireless Headset that uses a USB dongle to pair the headset but for the life of me I can't get my Mac Book Pro running Lion to recognise the device ... Can anyone throw any light on this... Grateful for any suggestions...

Check with Logitech if they have Lion compatible drivers for it.

Also make sure it is connected on your hi speed bus on the Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More info -> Hardware USB.

Also make sure you try it when the machine has not had a chance to sleep or have its lid closed. This sometimes puts the USB ports in a low power mode that only resets itself upon reboot. Some USB devices don't understand it.

OK here's an update - I dont see the USB device listed when I check the system report and look under USB... so maybe its not getting enough power...I dont know...

However when I take out the USB dongle and try pairing the headset with the MBP directly it does recognise it and I can use it as a wireless headset with no problem.. but it only recognises it as an output device and does not recognise the Mic... as an input device...

So I suppose its some progress...but would dearly love to be able to get the mic working now...

Thanks for your help so far ..its very much appreciated...

I actually resolved the problem and the solution is very strange!!! I discovered that if I used a USB hub and plugged the nano receiver into the hub instead of directly into the laptop it would work. The USB hub I used was just a very basic non powered one so it's not even an issue of the nano receiver not getting enough power from the mac book.

Like I say very strange but it works and I'm happy. But would love an explanation for this from anyone!!!

Weaver, thanks for sharing. That solution is very bizarre since the instructions explicitly advise against using a hub.

I'm unfortunately having the exact problem with my h600, though, i'm not using the dongle. I have BT built in; shouldn't need a dongle – one would think. I have another set from Jaybird (great headset for working out, driving, and walking, but the mic is not acceptable for business Skype calls) that works as stereo headphones and input device – no dongle, no problems.

I don't have a USB hub and that workaround will be cumbersome. Any other ideas?

I had also used the built in BT with the H600 and they worked apart from the mic. The only way to get both the mic and headset to work was to use the dongle and the only wat to get the dongle to work was to use an external hub.

I agree it's not ideal and I can't explain why it won't work when plugged into the MBP directly but the hub I used is only a very cheap non powered hub and it is a solution that works for me.

I'm sorry but I don't have any other ideas other than to hope Apple will come up with a solution as its obviously an issue with their usb ports.

Actually, after a little research I found out that it's this particular model that doesn't support the mic without the dongle. It's a Logitech issue. The h800 does support onboard Bluetooth (as well as iOS devices).

I did get the h600 + dongle to work on my MBP17in. without the hub. I plugged the dongle into a different USB port. Under System Profiler, I found that Apple's own Bluetooth is on one USB port and if I used that one, it didn't work.

HTH,

Chris
