My iPhone 3g permanent icon dock is gone. How do I restore it?

My grandaughter was playing with my iPhone and the permanent icon dock on the bottom of the screen disappeared. How do I restor it?

That shouldn't even be possible. Have you tried re-setting the phone? If that doesn't work, restore it from the last backup.

A long shot, but perhaps she just zoomed the screen so that the icons are beyond the displayed portion. If the icons that show are larger than normal, that's probably the case. If so, try double-tapping the screen with three fingers simultaneously and see if that brings the screen back to normal.
