iPhone 4S apps will not download, stuck on waiting

I have an iPhone 4s, latest iOS installed, and an iPad2 with the same iOS. When connected to my wifi at home, and in the office, my iPad will update existing, and download new apps from the appstore, but my iPhone will not. I can surf the web, and do emailing, so i am definitely online, but no apps, new or updating existing will get past the grey icon with Waiting underneath it. After 5/10 minutes of that, i get the message stating unable to connect to itunes, but itunes on my iPhone works fine, and the app store will load fine too.

I'm not interested in removing the grey icons, i want them to install, and i want to know why they're not installing. I know how to plug into iTunes on my Mac and do the updates/new installs, but that kinda defeats the object of having the iPhone with wifi.

Anyone have any idea what the cause could be, and how i can stop it from annoying me?

I am having the EXACT same problem as cognitivel0gic. It literally just happened today I was able to download an App on my iPhonen 4s yesterday. I did update iTunes to 10.5.3 this morning that is the only thing I can think of that has changed. My iPhone syncs perfectly normal with iTunes.

iPhone will sit on waiting on a new app and then say cannot connect.

iTunes will say authorizing for like 5 minutes and then say 'We could not complete your iTunes store request. The network connection was lost'.

Doesn't matter if I am on 3G, wireless, or wired.

As painful as it was (briefly) the fix that i found was a restore. I tried soft resets, hard resets, changing network settings. Pretty much everything i could to avoid a restore. Eventually i gave in and did a restore, reinstalled 5.0.1 and everything was back to normal.

I know its not ideal, and can take some time, but if you are having this issue give a restore a try!

I have the exact same problem for the past 2 hours, and now I figure out how to solve it.

Go to iTunes then go to downloads, you will see something is stucked there which is not downloading, delete it, you don't have to delete all of them, only the one is not downloading.

The problem of my iPhone 4S iOS 5.01 came from iTunes U, just right after I started downloading some video clips or podcasts from iTunes U. I could not find any video clips in there, after 2 hours, I found the problem, it was in iTunes, downloads is happening in iTunes, not in iTunes U.

You don't need to restore your iPhone any more.
