I recently noticed that my 2 month old macbook pro was running low on disk, so i looked in "about this mac" and noticed that the yellow "other' bar in the hard drive section had 281 gbs taken up, and it seems to be growing. I was thinking maybe it had something to do with the icloud but not sure. Any thoughts?

thanks that was helpful, I did the sweeper and found that I had 7000 something emails, it seems to have pulled all of my emails ever, even deleted ones, from gmail's server. I could delete them but i am wondering if it would pulled my saved emails from the server. Do you know?
I don't use Gmail and I don't know how it works. I suggest you post a new topic to address that question, if you can't find the answer by searching the site.
Try this. Go into your itunes /preferences/Devices....and view your device backups. Delete unneeded copies of device back ups (Ipads Iphones etc). This is the culprit and after removing these you will gain 80% of this hard drive space back.
