Sim-free Iphone 4s

Guys,

I just came back from England.

I went to several Apple stores in London but none of them had the Iphone 4s 16G to sell. So, they told me to go to Carphone warehouse.

There, I`ve asked many times if the Iphone 4s that they were trying to sell me was unlocked and all the answer were yes.

I`ve asked them if it would work out here in Brazil, and I got the same answer: Yes! They just told me that once I chose one carrier I could not trade it, but as I already have one carrier I tought it would be a big deal. And.. so I did, paid 499GBP for my iphone 4s 16G.

When I got here in Brazil and try to place my micro-SIM on my Iphone i was surprised by being stuck at the IOS screen page and that my iphone didn`t recognize my carrier as one of the allowed to use that phone.

I went to another carrier store and I bought another SIM because I thought that it

Unfortunetally, I just found out here in Brazil.

What i didn't get it is why the phone didn't recognize the brazilian carrier SIM since it should be SIM-Free.

I've used a vodafone SIM from a friend to be able to reach the iphone menu screen, so now i have an "Itouch".

Does anyone know a legal way to make my iphone work here in Brazil?

Does apple has some kind of app for this situation?

Should I unlock from vodafone network or it wouldn't work anyway?

I realy want to stay "legal" but be able to use my device...

Pls, if you have any thought or tips... i will appreciate!

Firstly only the carrier the iPhone is locked to can authorise Apple to unlock no one else and Apple will certainly not unlock without that request

If I understand you put a UK vodafone sim into the iPhone4s in the UK ?

If so it will have locked to vodafone if that is the case vodafone UK do unlock iPhones apparently

this link may help

http://www.vodafone.co.uk/personal/index.htm >>>>support then search for "unlocking webform "

Whether they will , as the iPhone is not active on their network is questionable

Because Apple are the straight guys in UK šŸ˜‰

In reality the iPhone is locked at point of sale in UK which is why occassionally a phone sold as unlocked by Apple accidently gets locked by mistake.

Question is why CPW are selling at list when the iPhone is not a truly carrier free iPhone

Answer because they can get away with it 😐

Thats false advertising then. A SIM-Free phone is usually always unlocked, so if its being locked after one sim card, its not unlocked. Apple really should get on to CPW and sue their ***! But its still really getting me as why CPW are selling the EXACT same SIM-Free "unlocked" iPhone as Apple and yet CPW's iPhones get locked after one sim card! So you are paying £499 for a SIM-Free locked-after-one-sim-card iPhone and Apple are selling a forever unlocked iPhone for the exact same price. I think I know where most people are gonna go...

hardly ,buyer beware

they sell simfree ....correct

They advise that first sim will lock it .....you would appear not to be in the Uk from your comments or you

might understand CPW and sorry but this life

ps I wouldn't go there without knowing exactly what |I was doing

I do live in the UK. And I know a bit about CPW. But my point is, if its the same SIM FREE UNLOCKED iPhone 4S as Apple, why does CPW lock???

Because it is not

CPW used to buy from the " network" now they get supply direct from Apple

They cover all the UK carriers and to make their own life easier they sell it sim free or they will lock it to a carrier if they also sell a PAYG or contract sale

They do not claim it is unlocked although technically it is but SIM Free which it also is

They also tell their sim free customers that it will lock to the first sim that is put in which it does .

Apple sell truly unlocked iPhones because thats the way they want to operate .

CPW also do their own thing

If it gives you a problem buy some shares and complain as a share holder
