iPhone/iMessage Splitting Threads for Same Contact

There seems to be an issue with my imessage/sms threads being split on other people's iPhones (2 x 3GS's). Two friends of mine have told me that their phones have split my imessage/sms threads into two separate contacts, one told me that the other is my gmail address.

The issue is that they are not getting some of my messages (which show as successfully transferred on my iPhone) and I am not receiving texts that they have sent me. I have seen, firsthand, the "successfully transferred" message on their phone and mine not having. We ended up going through and piecing together the lost messages to confirm we weren't crazy.

I have an iPhone 4S (5.0.1). The other iPhones involved are both 3GS models, updated to the iOS version that includes iMessage.

What is going on?

The issue I had was with my partners phone. It was sending from her email which was splitting the message thread if she sent messages that came through as SMS rather than iMessage. So I had 2 split conversations running.

Its a simple fix on iPhone...

Goto.....Settings, Messages, Receive at, sign out of your apple ID.

Thats it.

If when you go in there and you are signed in you will see "You can be reached for messages at:"

If you are signed in it will use your email by default rather than your phone number. Signing out refers it back onto your number instead. Now all messages are from the one sender.

Hope this helps.
