ipod touch apple id reset won't allow

We reset the apple id on our daughter ipod successfully on the computer and in iTunes, I know how to reset the password on the ipod (go into settings, store - sign out and sign in with the new id) when it prompted me for birthday - I put in hers, and it rejected it as she is too young, when I tried again and put in my birthday - it rejected me (hello - I am over 40) - now I can't reset the apple id? Suggestions - thanks.
