what I mean is that the backlit keyboard feature was on the 1st gen MBA's, and for some reason Apple decided to discontinue it on the 2nd gen MBA (the one you have), and then decided to bring the feature back to the newer models becasue people complained that it wasn't available on the model you have. The F5 key decreases the brightness of the backlit keyboard and the F6 brightens the keyboard on models that have the feature. Unfortunatley, you can't don anything as the model you have does not come with the feature. If you really want the feature, you can sell the model you have and use the proceeds to purchase a new model tht has the desired feature.

While it's a nice feature to have, I don't see it to be that big of a deal for a touch typist. And generally I don't type in the dark.

I am also a touch typist, don't need the lit keyboard and I tend to agree wth you. However, there are many users that need specific keys lit for easy access during certain programs that they have running. It's probably a feature they shouldn't of canceled on the late 2010 MBA, but I'm ok without it...
