plantronics explorer has to be re-paired with iphone

New iPhone4; can easily pair my Plantronics Explorer 395 bluetooth earpiece to it, but when the phone or earpiece is turned off, it will not re-connect. I have to tell the phone to "forget" this device then re-pair it to connect.

I am having the same issue with a Plantronics Explorer 245. The funny thing is that this bluetooth headset worked flawlessly with my first iPhone 4 (iOS 5.0.1). I had a warranty issue and had the phone replaced a few weeks ago. Now with my replacement iPhone 4 (iOS 5.0.1), I have to delete my headset and re-pair it every time it is turned off. Very frustrating! I'd love to know the source of the problem, and would appreciate any definitive answers. The bluetooth is several years old, so I'm willing to upgrade it so long as a different model will actually work.
