I want my iPod nano back

Sorry, but it is too late. I am in the same boat, and I am NOT happy about it. I asked your question and a dozen others when I was on the phone with Customer Support for about half an hour today. The CS rep was very nice and really took time to talk to senior support managers and even the people in charge of the replacement shipments, but there was nothing positive he had to tell me...

Once they have your iPod, it is gone. They have NOTHING in place to allow you get it back (not surprising) or to do anything else. You cannot request a refurbished 1G (the ones they already had are long gone and they are NOT refurbishing the ones people are sending back... they are just removing the parts they can re-use to refurbish later gen nanos... so there are no 1Gs to be had), you cannot request a certain color (or request NOT to get a particularly ugly color) of the 6G, etc. All you can do now is just wait to see what color square, ugly refurbished 6G they send you.

All you can do is call Apple and ask to lodege a complaint. The CS rep filed a complaint for me, because if Apple had simply been honest and told people what the plan was upfront (hmmm... what a concept!), I would have kept mine (and would have been perfectly happy to do so). I loved it, and didn't use it very often (so the battery risk was minimal)... and I would NOT have sent it back if I had known that I would NOT be getting a 1G back!

Common guys, ok you'll get a 6th gen Nano back and if you miss the first gen then sell your 6th gen on eBay or exchange it for a first gen....

Yes I agree I was expecting to get the 1st gen back as it was also my first apple product, but ok you find some 1st gen nano on eBay for 10$ so stop acting as babies screaming like ****...

i just got my silver 6g replacement unit.. i don't know what all the complaint is about? this thing is so much better than my old nano.. the click wheel buttons broke on my old nano.. touchscreen is the way to go..

i was expecting a 1g replacement.. but christmas came early this year 😝

I agree completely. I regretfully sent in my 1G that worked perfectly and I adored. For 3 weeks I've been using a 6G while I await my replacement and I HATE it. The screen is tiny and difficult to use (have you tried to "rewind" anything?!), you have to take the armband off and very carefully tap to adjust the controls, and who wants to do that while they are running? The 6G is a poorly designed product for the target market. It might work great for little kids with tiny fingers who can look at the screen, but for adults on the go, it's a bust.

Doesn't matter how much you use it - faulty Li-Polymer batteries will eventually fail in a bad way of their own accord. Better to get rid of it in the interests of safety.

If anyone wants to keep their 1G, then get the battery replaced as a separate servicing (that you will probably have to pay for) instead of sending it back in the free replacement program.

I also feel dissapointed with the 6th gen replacement for a few reasons. Most importantly the sound quality is not as good as the 6th Gen uses the Cirus Logic DAC whereas the original ipod nano used the Wolfson DAC which is far superior in sound. I really notice the difference and also feel navigation was better on my 1st gen. As much as i know they have replaced with a 6th gen model i feel a little hard done by. Would be impossible to get a like for like 1st gen off ebay as i kept mine immaculate and the battery life was wonderful. if i could reverse the clock i would have kept it and bought a replacement battery of ebay. I wish apple had said they were replacing with 6th gen rather then say they will replace the battery. Music quality is the most important for me and the 6th Gen sounds cold compared to the Wolfson Dac.

I guess I'd be less disappointed with my 6th gen replacement if the battery life was more than 4 hours. Anyone know if the replacements shipped out have been used already? With a full overnight charge via usb wall charger, playing music from my library on shuffle (with the screen asleep), I can't get more than 4.5 hours of battery life. That's the worst of the whole thing. My used first gen this is replacing was still giving me 10-12 hours of battery.

Any suggestions? Can I send this in to replace the battery now?

I read elsewhere on these forums that the 6th gen replacements were refurbished units.

Makes sense, you're sending in an old and used iPod Nano, and getting a used one back.

I don't know if the 90 day warranty would cover a new battery if your one isn't holding much of a charge any more. I guess it depends if they class that as a fault or not (I would say not, as it's what happens to all batteries eventually)

If you want to know for sure you'll just have to call Apple and ask them yourself.

Yeah, I got mine last week and was really surprised to only be able to use it for about 4 hours total. Even my 1G was still getting at least 8, because it would easily last throughout the work day even if I was using it most of the day. This one I have to "ration" out if I want any music for the late afternoon! I am really surprised that the battery charge time is so poor.

I'm in the same boat. Much shorter battery life. Come on Apple - there must be a better way than this.

I plugged in my Roberts DAB which used to only run for 2-3 hours on the 1st gen.... it lastd 45 minutes on the 6th gen.... virtually pointless!!!

Just got off the phone with apple support after going to an apple store where the genius' couldn't do anything for me. Supposedly I'm getting a new ipod after I send my current one in (6th gen through the 1st gen replacement program). Hopefully the new one will have better than 4 hours battery life.

Just got mine back today... Happy I'am.

I'was surprised it was not shipped by UPS but by local mail.

I tried to use my iPhone 4 earplugs and you may control volume play pause next with the command of the earplug cable.

Got my second replacement back a few days ago. I was unhappy with the battery life (4 hours) of the original replacement they sent me, went to the apple store and they told me to contact apple care.

Quite the hassle, but they sent me a different 6g within a week. Had to test it twice because I didn't believe it, but the second 6g they sent me gives me OVER 24 HOURS battery life. For real! I charged from the wall overnight and set it on shuffle until it died. Started 8:23am yesterday and it played the last song this morning at 9:13am today. I'm happy with nearly 25 hours of battery life. For me that even makes up for the poor design...I don't usually rewind songs while I'm running anyway.

I got a 6th gen too...at first, I was like, WHAT?! they sent me back a shuffle?! I guess the only thing you could do now is to get a used 1st gen...there are some like news in Amazon, but they are quite expensive...I'm not sure if that's worth it. How much would you spend to get a 1st gen back?
