windows pc won't connect to airport extreme through ethernet

Hi can anyone help me with this issue? i have just installed an airport extreme to my modem through the ethernet port and can get my mac and iphones and ipad too work fine, the mac is using ethernet from the airport extreme and works fine but i also have connected my eeepc running windows 7 and also my xbox 360 too the other two spare ports!!

Why will they not connect to the internet? im racking my brains here haha

I was also having an issue connecting my external hardrive to the extreme but i think i have found the problem for that?? the hardrive doesnt seem to keep powered more than 20 secs, could this be that its not formatted for the apple products?

Any help would be great cheers

If I understand you properly, the Mac but not the PC or Xbox 360, can gain Internet access via Ethernet connections to the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) ... correct? I assume that you have already tried using the Ethernet cable that works with the Mac with the other two devices and they still cannot connect ... correct? If not, then you should verify this first before continuing with troubleshooting to rule out bad Ethernet cables.

By default, both your Win7 PC and the Xbox 360 should be configured as DHCP clients.

For the PC:

  • Right-click the Network icon in the lower-right System Tray, and then, select Open Network and Sharing Center.
  • Click on Change adapter settings.
  • Right-click on Local Area Connection, and then, click on Properties.
  • Click on the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) option, and then, click on Properties.
  • On the General tab, verify that both the "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" options are selected.

For the Xbox 360, it will depend on which OS version it is running. Mine is the latest so it may differ from yours, but basically you want to go to the Xbox settings > System > Network Settings > Wired Network > Configure Network > Basic Settings. Verify that both IP & DNS Settings are set to "Automatic."

If you install parallels its easy. After installation go to help and type in wireless

To configure Windows to access the Internet through Wi-Fi:

Do one of the following:

Option-click (Alt-click) the Parallels icon (I could only see cog/star icon) in the menu bar and choose Configure.

If the Parallels Desktop menu bar is visible at the top of the screen, choose Virtual Machine > Configure.

Click Hardware and then click Network.

In the Network pane, make sure that the Connected option is selected.

Choose AirPort from the list.

After you perform these steps, Windows is able to connect to the Internet through the AirPort adapter of your Mac.

If you can't configure your virtual machine to function in the Bridged Ethernet mode, consider using Shared Networking or Host-Only Networking.

For the information about troubleshooting networking problems, refer to the Parallels knowledge base available at the Parallels website.
