Sometimes contact shows up as name other times as phone number

Same here its driving me nuts. I found out that if I add a +1 in front of some numbers it will show the name and if i get rid of the +1 on others it will show the name. But then I can still get multiple message groups from the same person. Also found out when i send a text to my wife she will get it from my email address and when she sends me a text it sends but i never get it. I have verizon and an iphone 4s my wife has the iphone4... it seems like we are both having issues. More me than her. Im going to try a factory restore and see if it helps.

Just noticed that before I did a restore... it was listing the numbers like 5555555555 instead of its normal (555) 555 5555... when i restored it it changed it back to that format but still had to delete old conversations to get back on track. seems like apple needs to address an issue here.

I dont know if I meantioned this.. But even after doing a restore. My phone will send text messages to people and instead of doing it as my phone number... it sends it as my email. I cant figure this out!!!

Ok so here is an update.. I went to apple today and they told me that if you have verizon you need to just dial *228 and when you hear the ladys voice press 1 and the iPhone will be reprogrammed into Verizon's network. He said it will solve the issue. I did it and everything seems to be working.

Hi I am having this same issue where when I get call it is just the number and not the contact name. Same thing with my log of calls received or sent...it just shows the number and not the name. I did the *228 and it did not do the trick. Any suggestions?>

I was having the same problem with numbers coming up in both messages and phone contacts. I just tried the *228 idea, then deleted the phone, messages, and contacts from my control menu. (Done by clicking the home key down twice - then holding down on one of the app icons for 4 seconds and then pressing the ➖ on phone, messages and contacts.) I waited 5 minutes, opened my messages and phone and everything is working like it is supposed to. I just switched from AT&T to Verizon for company purposes. Worked fine on At&T - Verizon is where this error occurred.

When you double click the home button a bar of icons shows up. When you hold your finger down on an icon they begin to shake with a minus sign in the corner of each icon. When you hit the minus sign in the bottom menu it will delete the icon. Your question is how do you get it back... Well the icons on your main screen and normal botto

Bar are actual program icons. When you delete those you delete the program all together. But when you double click the home button you see a list of icons that represent apps that are OPEN. When you delete these icons they dissappear closing the app but not deleting the application. So to answer your question... As long as you have deleted the icon in the double click menu, it will reappear as soon as you reopen that specific app. On your case the contacts, messages ect.

Son of a gun - it DID work! I didn't have parentheses around my area codes, my texts were coming in with #s not names, so I dialed *228, pressed 1 and waiting for about 30 seconds until the nice lady told me my phone was programmed. And now it's fine! Ah, the miracles of...

I have the same problem. If I get a text message from my daughter, sometimes it comes in under her name, other times under her cell phone number. Anyone know what causes this?

Ah yes I see how that would. But how would I then get back the phone, messages, and contact icons back?

Does anyone know these icons come back?
