maximum RAM in iMac 7,1

According to MacTracker, an iMac 7,1 (2007) according to Apple can have only maximum of 4GB SDRAM, but "actually" can handle 6GB. Can someone confirm this or comment on the efficacy of both 4GB and 6GB. My iMac in question currently has 3GB (1GB + 2GB) and I want to max its RAM as prior to installing Lion.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone in the know can offer!

You can also check www.everymac.com for specs. While Apple may support only 4 GB, some memory suppliers have tested and stand behind more memory. Good sources like OWC, www.macsalse.com and Crucial are reliable if they say they support more memory.

Glad to help, Keith. These questions keep coming up of Apple saying such and such, and suppliers saying, oh yea?

There are certain legacy machines that have chip sets that will not address more than ceertain amounts of memory, and those just don't leave the memory makers any room to play.

Happy Holidays to you in the far west...beautiful city, spent time there before and after an inside passage cruise a few years ago.

Hey, Ralph,

Thanks for taking the time to reply! Yes, we love it "out here." I've also been to Maryland (saw my one and only MBL game in Baltimore and loved it! Saw Cal R near the end of his career: it was a revelation to me to watch the way he played the same position I used to in my youth....)

Merry Christmas and a safe, healthy, and adventurous New Year to you and yours!

Well, everybody always assumes that, but I'm right next to the "other one" and it is confusing. Before and during the Olympics, everybody from all over the world called here thinking that was it.....and we are close - took us only 6 hours to get to the "eh" one north of here...😀

And merry Christmas to you too!

Hi, Babowa,

Ralph correctly deduced that I live in the A-1 one, 6 hours north of the next best Vancouver. I have to admit, though, that not everyone finds that this Vancouver "wash"es.... Enough already, I hear you mutter.

Merry Christmas to all from the "Great, not-so-right-now-except-on-the-mountain-ski-slopes-that-we-can-view-from-the-re sidential areas—White North."

I figured that as well, but you know, I had to do it...... you should really clarify that in your signature, i.e. "from the other Vancouver".....

FWIW, couldn't see much snow during the Olympics either except from our 35th floor condo balcony (opposite the Olympic Village).

Well, I am certainly glad we got that straightened out about which Vancouver...I was so worried about that couldn't even tear myself away to get a cup of coffee.

Oh, oh, better watch it, we might end up starting another Flaky discussion and get ourselves in trouble again 😉
