Your Kindle device should be registered on Amazon Kindle site. You have to download
your book to the Kindle separately.
Go to Amazon>Your digital Items>Manage Your Kindle>Digital Library.
Click on Action button to right of book you want to download to Kindle. This should include
both the iPad and the Kindle, as well as any other device you've registered.
But this will only show books in the Kiindle library.
It will not show any books in your iBooks library and books purchased thru the iBooks store, cannot be put onto the Kindle or the Kindle app.
The OP asked how to get iBooks onto the Kindle.
Your Kindle device should be registered on Amazon Kindle site. You have to download

Go to Amazon>Your digital Items>Manage Your Kindle>Digital Library.
Click on Action button to right of book you want to download to Kindle. This should include

A new window opens and you can choose what device you want to download a book to.
Click on blue up/down arrows to see your devices & choose Kindle.
Click on yellow Deliver buttons.
You can download directly to Kindle via WiFi or 3G, depending on what you're using.
There are Help Guides, Kindle Help and Getting started info on the Kindle site as well.
Good luck and enjoy the Kindle.
so the books i have on my ipad cant be put onto the kindle? i am struggling with this as the ipad books are free but the kindle ones arn't and the ones ive bought, i dont really want to have to buy again!
You cannot transfer your i books to the kindle. But you can install the kindle reader on the ipad, and read your kindle books there. The kindle device does not have an i book reader.
Forgot to add: you can download your books to more than one device, as long as it's registered at the Kindle site. So you can download to both the iPad and the Kindle w/o paying for each download.
You cannot transfer iBooks to kindle.
You need iBooks.
I may have misread. I thought the concern was for Kindle books already paid for.
So perhaps the books are iBooks instead? My error.
