Jan 29, 2012 10:17 AM in response to emm102by meljturner,I am also repeatedly getting error -50 while downloading an SD movie (1.55GB). Like others I have tried everything to complete this download, including making sure my iMac doesn't fall asleep (using caffeine.app) and trying variations of deleting the downloads temp folder and restarting the download.
I find that just clicking 'resume' doesn't work ( the error reoccurs immediately).
Right-clicking 'download now' does restart the download but sometimes jumps back to an earlier point. For example, I got up to 1.19GB when the -50 occured but 'download now' restarted at about 450MB.
It's been more than 24 hours now to download a movie that I wanted to watch yesterday evening; I will persist this time but I won't be purchasing another movie for quite awhile, it's too painful.

Jan 30, 2012 1:56 AM in response to meljturnerby spongerobsquarehead,I'm having the same problems. I can't seem to download video on any devices I have. Nothing I have tried seems to fix the problem and this includes trying a completely clean itunes install on a newly build Windows machine.

Jan 30, 2012 6:19 AM in response to emm102by mujalifah,This happens to me quite often and I found the following to work better than the solution to delete the download cache in finder:
In iTunes go to "Downloads" and right click the file reference (with the error msg). Click "Delete".
Then select from the iTunes main menu "store"->"check for available downloads".
The file will start to download again where it previously left off.
The error message still comes up again (and again, and again) and interfere with the download process, but eventually you get the whole file.

Jan 30, 2012 3:03 PM in response to mujalifahby boilerth,I'm getting the same problem and Apple's been no help whatsoever. I have seen other posting pointing to ISP being the culprit here and specifically AT&T U-verse. I am using U-verse so it makes sense to me that this may in fact be the cause. What's everyone else using?

Jan 30, 2012 4:06 PM in response to boilerthby vizzy123,I'm using Time Warner Cable. I don't think it's an ISP problem because why would something so specific be blocked? I can download podcasts and apps perfectly. It's just movies.

Jan 30, 2012 11:38 PM in response to boilerthby spongerobsquarehead,I don't think that's it but I'm on virgin media cable in the UK. Apple support have given up with my problem and I have been issued with a refund. They also said the issue would be escalated for further investigation. Exploring the net I found someone else who was given exactly the same message nearly a month ago. Looks like an Apple problem to me.

Feb 1, 2012 8:20 AM in response to emm102by FrankIndia,Facing the same issues as described I first looked into the power savings modes. Event after switching off evertyhing obvious like putting HD to sleep and going into standby, same problem remained. Than I took my chances and even switched off the power saving options for the screen and...it looks like the download succeeds in one go. Could be a coincidence only applicable for the current movie I am downloading but i felt like sharing it with all of you.

Feb 3, 2012 11:27 AM in response to emm102by cbdf,I've tried all the download erasing etc. No joy.
When will Apple at least reply and acknowledge the problem? The phone help was useless.

Feb 4, 2012 1:11 PM in response to emm102by Sav123,I have been downloading movies for years and never saw this error.
Today I moved ISP and joined Virgin Media UK.
The first movie I try to download has this problem.
I think it may have something to do with ISP.

Feb 5, 2012 2:53 AM in response to Sav123by spongerobsquarehead,I'm still not sure about it being the ISP. I managed to downoad another film a few days ago and it worked ok. That seems to suggest it is something to do with specific files on the iTunes server.

Feb 9, 2012 12:53 AM in response to emm102by aeroplanext,I've had this problem on, and off with the iTunes Store with various versions of OS X, including (error -50). It pretty much happens to me intermittently while downloading tv shows. For instance, the entire 4th season of "Damages" downloaded just fine, except for 1 episode, with a paltry 40MB left to go out of the 1.57gb total before crapping out with -50. This happened yesterday.
Each time it happens, the most ridiculously simple solution has worked for me. I either select the "Check for available downloads" option in the "Store" menu (which didn't work for me this time), or like today, I quit iTunes, and then immediately restarted it, and it downloaded the rest of the show without any problems on its own after starting up.
Weird.
But, you know, I hear sacrificing the odd toaster to the Technology Gods helps, too!
-Mark.

Feb 13, 2012 5:27 PM in response to emm102by kolrdr,One of the posted solutions here worked for me, so I want to reiterate it incase it helps someone else. You can go to your itunes folder in finder or through searching for it on your pc (probably in the music folder) and then navigate to the downloads folder. For me, the downloads folder was inside the itunes music folder. The downloads folder only seems to contain items in the process of downloading. Open it, and delete all the folders that have this error. Itunes will have to be closed in order to do this. Then reopen itunes, go to store, check for downloads and the downloads will start all over again and this time, for me, they made it.
People are right that -50 is a random error that seems to happen every now and then for unknown reasons. For me, it has always been connected to do many downloads at once, regardless of their size. Sometimes it's just ap updates that produce the error. It appears to me that the key to fixing it is erasing evidence of the error, hence some people have success with cleaning cache and so on. For me cleaning the cache wasn't enough. I needed to delete the files.
Hope this helps others.

Feb 13, 2012 11:29 PM in response to kolrdrby cbdf,Thanks for the help. It is appreciated and one of the wonders of our age how people take the time to chip in. A silver lining and makes the minor inconvience of downloading Sylvester Stallone movies that much more minor. Thanks.

Feb 17, 2012 3:06 AM in response to emm102by Craz4Sk8erGuy,FOR EVERYONE WITH -50 ERROR
First close your iTunes. Go to your iTunes folder within your computer, then click on the media, then select on your issues (movies, music, shows) within that folder find the content ( title ) which you are trying to download. Delete the folder to recycle bin, and trash it, completely. Then re-open iTunes. Now the issue should clear and iTunes should ask for your password to re-download it. I found this in a random article, though someone else had pointed it to me. Hope this help everyone....
