i think i accidently deleted the settings icon on my mac is there anyway of getting it back without going to an apple store?

Now to worry the icons in the Dock are only aliases.
So if you go into Applications and find System Preferences and drag that back to the Dock that will create another one for you.

What do you mean by "settings icon"? Do you mean System Preferences? What do you mean by "on my mac"? Do you mean you deleted it in Finder, or moved it off the dock? We can help but you need to clarify the problem.
yes the system prefrenses and on my mac where the line of icons is at the bottom of the screen i acciedntly dragged it to the home screen and cant fin it i think i it got deleted
That line of icons at the bottom of the screen is called the Dock. Do what Allan says.
