Restore the phone use the most recent backup you made when they were still present.

Messages are included with the iPhone's backup, which is updated automatically as the first step during the iTunes sync process or with an iCloud account with the iPhone running iOS 5.0 or later and the current iTunes version on your computer, the iPhone's backup can be done wirelessly via an available wi-fi network.

If your iPhone's backup was updated before the messages were deleted and the backup has not be updated since the messages were deleted, you can try restoring your iPhone from your iPhone's backup being sure not to update the backup before doing so.

Hi- I'm having this same problem. So if my phone went ahead and autosynced (thus my new backup does not have the delete messages either), am I pretty much screwed or is there another way around it?
