ibook G4 wipe problem

In the middle of a wipe on my G4 and beach ball is running. Will that interfere with the erace? Is it necessary to stop the process? Suggestions on what to do will be appreciated. Preparing to give the machine to my grand daughter tomorrow night for Christmas. Help!

Are you using the Install and Restore discs that came with the iBook when it was new to do the erase? Did you choose to Erase and Install or do a multi-pass erase?

Which exact iBook model is it?

You can choose from this list:

Thanks for responding, Rhonda. We were able to stop the ball last night and reconfigured the notebook in a couple of hours. Spoke with a friend who had a similar problem and learned all we had to do was to hold the power button down to stop the ball from spinning and then proceed with the install and restore disc. Apparently after running several days the computer decided it had erace enough and told us that by throwing the spinning ball at us! 🙂
